Biography: Beckinsale's first major role was starring in
"Much Ado About Nothing" (1993), and she had roles in several
other films, but none that garnered much popularity.
She did star in "Brokedown Palace" (1998) opposite of Claire
Danes. But it was in 2001 in the film "Pearl Harbor" when
Beckinsale found herself in a quality film that gave her mass star
appeal. After this, she starred opposite of John Cusack in
"Serendipity" (2001).
Pursuing more diversifying roles, she starred in supernatural film
"Underworld" (2003) as Selene, opposite of Scott Speedman.
After this, she found herself in a role opposite of Hugh Jackman in
"Van Helsing" (2004). Clearly, her acting abilities have
gotten much notice, and she had a major role in 2004's "The
Aviator" starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
